Area Police
Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Police say they were notified late on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then located multiple other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say initial examinations show the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; authorities are presently not informed of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to solve the case" and have asked to the community for information.
A high-ranking representative commented the vandalism left him speechless and had to be addressed promptly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he posted on online, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
